Hello Music Educators,
There will be a meeting of the Dublin branch of the PPMTA on Tuesday evening 17th January from 6-8pm in Drumcondra Education Centre. The address is Drumcondra EC, DCU, St. Patrick’s Campus, Drumcondra, Dublin 9.
The meeting is a two-hour long workshop given by Ciara Coleman on the topic: “The Active Classroom”.The aim of this workshop is to present teachers with a range of ideas and exercises to build an active classroom, with a special focus on the Leaving Certificate Music Course. Many students struggle with melody writing in particular, and with aural skills more generally; we will explore ways to develop students’ inner hearing through singing and rhythmic exercises, simple dictation and memory work. We will also explore ways to teach the Set Works in a practical way, complementing traditional methods with a more holistic approach.
Resources demonstrated will be made available, but please bring a manuscript and pencil for any additional note-taking.
Tea/Coffee will be served from 5.45pm.
